"Many Hands Make Light Work"

(Please Lend A Hand)

My Journey of Gratitude

(Testimony of Walusimbi king Jehu)

My name is Walusimbi king Jehu and this is the story of how the kindness and generosity of the Outreach Uganda director Joan Sanyu (a.k.a. Mummy Love) shaped my life. I was born into humble beginnings, where scarcity was more of a norm than an exception. As a child, my parents were both gone and I was living with my grandmother. I didn’t know how to make ends meet and many nights I went to bed hungry. Through all the challenges, there was one constant in my life—a woman I lovingly call my guardian angel.

From as far back as I can remember, she has been there, offering me a helping hand. I first met her when I was just a child. At that time I was shy and uncertain about the world, but she immediately became a beacon of hope to me. She wasn’t a relative, but she treated me like her own. She saw potential in me when I couldn’t see it in myself, and she stepped in when I needed help the most.

Financial Support

Her first act of kindness came in the form of financial aid. My grandmother couldn’t afford to pay for school fees or basic necessities, but she made sure I was never left out. She paid for my education, bought me books, and ensured I had a decent pair of shoes to walk to school. It wasn’t just the money that impacted me so —it was the way she invested in me holistically that touched my heart. She always said, “Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty,” and she made sure I had every opportunity to succeed. Even when there wasn’t enough to meet all my needs, she tried to make me happy and give me hope, while doing the same for many other children.

Health

Growing up there were times I fell seriously ill, I was without proper healthcare, and I could only pray for miracles. She became my miracle by paying my hospital bills and by providing for regular check-ups. In so doing she ensured my health was never compromised. I remember one particular incident when I was hospitalized with a severe fever. She stayed by my side, holding my hand and reassuring me that I would be okay. Her unwavering support and love helped me recover not just physically, but emotionally as well.

Studies

As I grew older, she continued to encourage me academically. When I struggled with subjects like math, she hired tutors to help me catch up. She celebrated every milestone, from passing a tough exam to winning a small award at school. Her belief in me fueled my determination to excel. She often said, “You are destined for greatness,” and her words became my mantra. I am so grateful and thankful to the Lord that I have been able to finish my Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) , in 2024, through the help of Mummy Love and with the financial support of my sponsor in the US.

Shelter

Mummy Love treated me as if I was her own child. She housed me, fed me and gave me a bed to use and I am so grateful for her kindness . We stayed in the same house, we broke bread together and we shared stories here and there as I grew. All the while she gave me advice concerning how to conduct myself as a responsible adult. I will never ever forget or take for granted the way she selflessly sowed into my life.

At 18

Having already turned 18 years old at this point in my life, I can look back on the journey with immense gratitude. Because of her, I am not just surviving—I am thriving. I am on the path to achieving my dreams, and it’s all because she believed in me when no one else did.

To her, I owe everything. She taught me the power of kindness, resilience, and hope. As I have now stepped into adulthood, I

intend to honor her legacy by continually paying it forward. Her love and support have not only changed my life but have also inspired me to become a source of light for others. Thank you, (MUMMY LOVE) my guardian angel, for being the reason I am who I am today. Your kindness will forever be etched in my heart. This testimony is dedicated to you (a walking example of the power of love and selflessness).
